Young rapper XXXTentacion was reportedly murdered after being shot in Miami while shopping for motorcycles recently this past June. After pictures and videos flooded social media, many believed that Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy had faked his own death in a publicity stunt to promote a future album rumored to be called “No Pulse.” The videos that were leaked showed the 20 year old in his car, however, there was no blood or damage to the car and no bullet holes that were visible, causing the conspiracy rumors that “X” could have faked his death. Further evidence points to this conspiracy as his latest music video, “SAD!,” revolves around the rapper attending his own funeral as a changed man, disgusted with his former self. The music video shows XXXTentacion fighting his former self in an attempt for closure of that part of his past, hinting at the idea that he could be rebirthing himself. So, where is the line drawn between a talented young mind and work of art and going too far to get a message across?

Given XXXTentacion’s violent and dark past, fans and even critics were left confused and questioning the truth. A video clip surfaced from August 2017 of the rapper taking his own life, but that was later revealed as a publicity stunt to create hype for his “Look at Me” music video, so who is to say that the artist would not pull the same stunt twice? Back in 2016, Onfroy was faced with charges of gun possession, robbery and assault with a deadly weapon. Later that same year, he was arrested on charges of false imprisonment, witness tampering, and aggravated assault of a pregnant victim, who happened to be his former girlfriend.

Following the reported death, an old Instagram live video of the artist circulated on social media as it shows him talking about the possibility of his own death. He states in the video: “If worse thing comes to worst, and I f****** die or some s*** and I’m not able to see out my dreams, I at least want to know that the kids perceived my message and were able to make something of themselves and able to take my message and use it and turn it into something positive and to at least have a good life.”

Despite official authority confirmation of the rapper’s passing, fans still believe that he could still be alive, awaiting the right moment to return. Fans and others in the music community took to social media to expressed their sorrows for rapper XXXTentacion and his family following the shocking news. Even Kanye West shared his remorse as he tweeted “Rest in peace. I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here thank you for existing.”
