Australian climate change protesters buried their heads in the sand to mock the government’s refusal to take global warming seriously. Tony Abbott, the Australia’s prime minister, referred to global warming as “crap” back in 2009 and hasn’t changed his views since which is reflected in their laws. During July, Australia reversed action on climate change, repealing a tax on greenhouse gas emissions. Australians are attempting to bring awareness and change by copying the myth that ostriches futilely try to avoid danger by shoving their heads in the sand. I think that continuous protests like these will draw enough attention from the government that they will give way to their citizens, especially with added pressure from other nations in support of climate control. Are demonstrators successfully instigating change through their performance? Or would they be more successful were they try to get laws passed through the legal system? Are their efforts futile?
