Gofraudme

GoFundMe is a crowdfunding platform that allows people to raise money for almost about anything, such as graduations, tragedies, etc… For example if a family member has cancer a Gofundme account can be created to raise money for their treatments. From 2010 to 2017, over $5 billion was raised on the platform for over 2 million individual campaigns. Basically a bunch of individual people donate any amount of money to reach or surpass of the gofundme goal. The popularity of this platform has caused many people to create fake sicknesses or problems to pocket the money. In June of 2017 a woman of the name Alicia Pierini pretended to her friends and family she had brain cancer. Her family then created a gofundme page and she racked up $30,000 in donations. She put much so much time and effort to create her form of fraud “art.” Is creating a form of false advertisement a form of art? In her case i believe she created a piece of art on her gofundme page to make it seem she really had cancer. For example she posted pictures of her with her head shaved and actually got a tattoo which quoted, “Cancer may have started the fight, but I will finish it.” Her form of art actually convinced hundreds of people to donate a their own money towards the cause. Do you believe even though her scheme was completely fraud and morally wrong, her creativity establishing a false sickness could be considered artwork?
