This article basically supports the negative connotation that tattoos often carry. A study was conducted in Texas that surveyed a relatively small sample of college students. It was found that those with body art (tattoos, as well as piercings) have a higher tendency to become involved in substance use, and other deviant behaviors. While I personally do not have any tattoos or body piercings, a majority of my friends do, my father has sleeves on both arms and legs, in addition to numerous other tattoos. While I do think that there may be a correlation between the personalities of those who get tattoos and their tendency to be more adventurous in the activities they engage in, I think that this article is a proponent for the negative way society views tattoos. Our generation, and the society we live in today, is very accepting and tattoos are far less taboo than they once were. Publishing this study seems like a step in the wrong direction.
