ISIL Profits from Antiquities Sales

The FBI issued a warning August 2015 warning American’s not to purchase antiquities from ISIL or be subject to charges of furnishing support to a terrorist organization. ISIL has been looting in Iraq and Syria, stealing ancient artifacts to sell in support their cause. Reports from the middle east also indicate the group has been demolishing archeological sites and museums as they leave. As recently as April 2016, news sources report profits from online sales of these priceless artifacts have raised hundreds of millions of dollars for the terrorist group. Should wealthy American’s be charged with furnishing support to a terrorist organization for purchasing these artifacts? Or are they saving the artifacts from destruction?
