This article discusses the opening of an art exhibit by the name of “Confronting Truths: Wake Up!” at the Gallery Guichard in Chicago. This exhibit was showcased in light of the shootings of unarmed black men by police officers, specifically the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson. There were also art pieces that touched upon the history of police brutality as well as the history of the protests and solidarity behind the people trying to stop it. The artist, Ti-Rock Moore, believed that “art can be healing” and chose to showcase this exhibit in order to help those who were affected by this tragedy as well as educate those who did not understand it. The exhibit was graphic but I believe that it was necessary for the public to understand the truth, to see these men as human beings that deserved justice for their deaths.
