“A Nation to Itself Forever” is a sculpture done by David Cerny, a common unconventional artist. It features a thirty foot naked man atop Prague’s National Theatre, who appears to be masturbating. The statue spurts jets of steam from the sculpture’s penis at random intervals. The project was cut and it is said that Cerny lost a bet with other local artists, as it was a project too distasteful to be paid for. Was the city of Prague justified to claim his artwork was not suitable for the public? In other words, would you consider artwork for the people or for the artist?
