“It was pretty but it was so dirty and there was so much graffiti.” These are the comments that many Americans have when talking about visiting Rome. Rome is known for their beautiful, historic buildings; however, many tourists have a problem with the massive amounts of graffiti. Americans decided to take this into their own hands and they took to cleaning up the city with the statement, “We’re retaking Rome”. This has caused many Romans to protest because they believe the graffiti makes the city alive. Which brings the question, who’s city is it to take? Romans refuse to let the city fall to tourists. The tourists want to clean it up and make it “better.” Again, who’s city is it?
