Are reality type crime shows such as cops educational or just crimesploitation. Crimesploitation is the act of exploiting crime through media. Crime type reality shows claim to educate middle class consumers about the dangers of crime, however there seems to be a hidden agenda. Crime is attractive but dangerous and what crimesploitation does is allow non-criminals for entertainment and the criminal people get a taste. So people enjoy being able to watch it from the comfort of their homes.
Some qualities that display crimesploitation can be detected by the narratives simplicity and repetition, lack of actors, and high ratings. These type of shows concern is to gain profit by degrading people. It is important to note that the majority of the suspects on the show cops were minorities. Ultimately these types of shows are making a profit from the degradation of minority suspects. Therefore, it is lacking the educational purposes they claim to have.
