One of the most known graffiti artist, Banksy, has been “tagging” his art all around the world for the past 22 years. His graffiti art is usually done with stencils, but has also built physical prop pieces. Even with the government labeling graffiti as vandalism, Banksy purposely displays his art work in public places on walls or buildings, all while keeping his identity a secret. Banksy’s graffiti art is characterized as a form of underclass “revenge”, allowing the people to take away power from the bigger enemy, the government. He often creates graffiti art that mocks or belittles the government power, hoping that it will show the people the truth behind the corrupt government. The question is now posed, is Banksy and artist or a criminal?? The government has made by law that all graffiti is illegal, but yet Banksy’s art is enjoyed by millions and sends out a strong message of power for the people. The fight between illegal graffiti and art has been going on for years, but its artists like Banksy that actually give the graffiti meaning.
