The song “Two Black Cadillacs” by Carrie Underwood is a wonderful depiction of bringing art and crime together. When I first heard the song, I loved it, I love her voice on the track, the instruments, and all the different notes she hits. After listening to it a few times I started to pay closer attention and I finally realized that the song was about murder. So many people assume that the only artists that write about killing, are rappers and gangsters The fact that criminal acts were so well disguised in a creatively written country song by a woman is amazing to me. The song discusses about a wife and a lover finding out about each other and the man they had in common. In one phone call where they find out about each other they decide that they’re not going to let him get away with doing that to them. That was the only time they spoke and the funeral was the first and last time they saw each other. She sings about how neither of the women shed a tear, they just walked away and “left the secret at the grave.” It is actually one of my favorite songs from her new album, mainly because she can turn the story of a murder into art.
