Dirty Kuffar (Kuffar is Arabic for “nonbeliever”) is a 2004 music video performed by Muslim British rappers Sheikh Terra and the Soul Salah Crew. Beginning with footage of US soldiers shooting down an already wounded Iraqi victim and then cheering afterwards, the video can be somewhat difficult to watch. However controversial the song may be, it gained much attention, and perhaps that is just what the creators were hoping for. Just as any other music artist, they are expressing their ideologies and looking to gather supporters. Here is an excerpt from the lyrics: “Peace to Hamas and the Hizbollah OBL [bin-Laden] pulled me like a shiny star Like the way we destroyed them two towers ha-ha The minister Tony Blair, there my dirty Kuffar The one mister Bush, there my dirty Kuffar… Throw them on the fire” So what do you all think? The crime factor in this video is clear, but does anyone see it as art? Does “art” have to be considered moral to even be considered art? -Seraphina Solders
