In addition to all the recent posts involving art pieces that have an element of crime to them, I would like to point out that the occurrence of crime is often a powerful catalyst for moving artworks. This painting by Pablo Picasso, entitled Guernica, was created in response to a bombing of the town Guernica in northern Spain. The government asked Picasso to create a work that would reveal the suffering and atrocities that were endured due to such a damaging crime, and the painting has since gained attention all over the world. Of course, this case is not unique. Artists everywhere are still using their creativity to speak to the world about horrible crimes being committed, and this may be one of the most effective ways to do so in my opinion, because of the wide influence art has in all places. Please feel free to comment about any mediums you believe to be the most effective when trying to spread awareness of an ongoing atrocity.
