Jennifer Lawrence recently had nude photos hacked and stolen from her, and she is finally expressing her anger. In the November issue of Vanity Fair, Lawrence talked about the anger and embarrassment she felt, but the peace she is trying to find. At first she tried to write an apology statement to the public, but she soon realized that she had nothing to be sorry for because she is in a loving relationship and the pictures weren’t meant for anyone else. She says, “It is not a scandal. It’s a sex crime,” because those photos were stolen and exploited. This is different than how many celebrities have dealt with their nude photos being leaked. For example, Miley Cyrus and Vanessa Hudgens both apologized, but Lawrence is trying to get change out of this. She says, “The law needs to be changed, and we need to change.” Even people she knows and loves told her they looked at the photos, and she said they are contributing to the crimes. I think being an actress should not automatically mean it’s ok for people to steal private photos of you. Not too long ago, the internet didn’t exist and actresses didn’t have to worry about that. They didn’t sign up for exploitation of their body when they became an actress; it is just a career choice, and they should be treated like real people instead of objects. How do you think this will affect her career, and more importantly will any law be changed to help protect celebrities against these sex crimes?
