The criminal justice system is failing to implement current societal norms within jails and prisons

Since I do have little experience with the criminal justice system, I am aware of the treatment LGBTQ inmates receive. Without even being convicted of a serious crime, LGBTQ inmates are usually segregated and or placed into solitary confinement where they are restricted with time in the rec yard and visits from family. Rather than creating a space to rehab, prison is now a place where crime is further encouraged by the inmates, which prison guards cannot control. By segregating LGBTQ individuals and not implementing them into the general population, inmates that do not identify with the LGBTQ community will not be able to integrate themselves back into society when they are released. Which is the main purpose of restorative justice.
