Urban Outfitters and The Kent State Sweater

November 30, 2015February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

Last year Urban Outfitters had the brilliant idea to take a horrible incident at Kent State University and profit off of it. They attempted to sell a Kent State sweater with blood splatter in reference to the shooting that occurred in 1970. They even had the audacity to name the

“Terror Chic” Hits Runways

November 29, 2015February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

Inspiration for fashion can stem from any source; however, John Galliano is one of the very few fashion designers in the world who can say that he drew inspiration from war. In 2008, he debuted his menswear collection at Paris Fashion Week, and received both positive and negative feedback as

High Fashion that Incorporates Sexual Violence

November 29, 2015February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

In the world of fashion photography, there seems to be a trend of including sexual violence. Photographs from high end companies that feature abuse towards models are becoming more and more common. For what reason, we can’t be entirely sure. This is obviously wrong, but I’d like to dive into

A Fetish Culture or Artistic Designs?

November 19, 2015February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

Everyone has a fetish and this woman is just helping them dress for it. Australian designer Teale Coco began designing bondage and goth inspired clothes at the age of 20 after modeling in New Zealand, Korea and Japan. She calls herself a rebel and designs fashionable fetish wear- including harnesses,

New York Fashion Week is a famous event dedicated to the boldest, brightest fashion designers. For Kerby Jean Raymond, the honor of being the ultimate risk-taking designer was given to him before any clothes were even shown. Raymond, founder and head designer of Pyer Moss, wanted to utilize his show

The “Bad Guy” Critique

September 19, 2015February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

Violence towards women, rape culture, and misogyny have been influencing media and art for a very long time. Recently, Maxim Korea released a cover shoot (as seen above) of Kim Byung-Ok, a very famous South Korean actor, standing in back of a car with the trunk open and a pair

ORIGINALFAKE

April 27, 2013February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

Original Fake is a brand that creates figurine toys and clothes. They often use iconic characters but with a little twist to it. I am not sure if the brand has agreements with Disney or the owners/creators of Charlie Brown characters in order to use the original names of the

Married to the MOB

April 24, 2013February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

MTTM clothing was made by a woman for other women. It is street style clothing, and she started the line because there were so many street brands for men, but nothing really for women. What I think is interesting is how a lot of their clothing say “bitch” and MOB

The New BlackFace: Super Size Jewelry, Drugs, Guns, Women, & Rapping

April 11, 2013February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

When one examines the programming of BET and/or MTV, or listens carefully to any Hip Hop radio stations, it’s clear that the minstrel shows from the 1840-1900s are alive and well. The black make-up, red mouths, banjoes, and expressing their inexplicable love for “ol’ massuh.” have all been replaced with

Saggy Pants

April 11, 2013February 14, 2021 bgoeltzenleuchter

This has been a topic for years, and I frankly find it quite amusing. Saggy pants seemed to originate in prison , where belts were not allowed and the inmates pants would often sag because of this. Some people claim that it originated in prison where people would show that

About Us

The Art | Crime Archive (ACA) is a collaborative laboratory, teaching center, and web-based platform devoted to the study of the shadow space where art and crime overlap. The ACA’s online platform was created in 2012 and since its inception has functioned as a participatory archive for a wide range of scholars, artists, students, and community members. The ACA welcomes submissions of media and accompanying short essays on art, crime, and culture. The ACA peer-reviews submissions and only accepts materials that significantly contribute to the broader academic and artistic discourses on creativity and actual criminal behavior. As a general rule, it does not publish submissions related to crime fiction or figurative works.
