Dove used a FBI-trained forensics artist, Gil Zamora, to sketch women volunteers. There were two sketches of each woman, one from her describing herself and the other from a stranger describing her. The differences between the two sketches were extreme. Dove was promoting their Campaign for Real Beauty by showing the beauty in a natural face and simple sketch. They were also highlighting the harsh nature in which we judge ourselves. I found it surprising that the campaign was criticized to no end in the comments. People claimed there was experimental bias because the forensics artist knew the details of the experiment and the use of fairly skinny women did not portray accurate results. I thought Dove did a good job of creating a situation in which they could sell their product but also use the combination of art and real women. Do you think Dove’s campaign was successful?
