Exit Through the Gift Shop is a 2010 documentary that explores the inside story of street art. A French shop keeper turned hopeful film-maker ventures out to capture some of the world’s most infamous graffiti artists in action. His main goal is to find Banksy (an alias name), an artist who refuses to reveal his identity because he wants his artwork to speak for himself- and because he wants to avoid prosecution. No one really knows who this Banksy character is, but people have different theories on who he could possibly be. The documentary shows the low-level criminality of vandalism and the debate of whether graffiti is art or crime. Everyone has their own opinion to what graffiti is. The documentary shows street artists in action and the reality of what happens when they get caught in the process.
