Today we are all over obsessed with personal image and presentation, but why? Society today constructs the idea that looks are prioritized above all. If someone is attractive, chances are that things will tend to lean in their favor more often then not. Statistics show that, even from a young age, people pay more attention to those who show attractive traits. “We believe in the ‘what is beautiful is good’ stereotype – an irrational but deep-seated belief that physically attractive people possess other desirable characteristics such as intelligence, competence, social skills, confidence – even moral virtue. (The good fairy/princess is always beautiful; the wicked stepmother is always ugly)” We know that this is not always true, but somehow we constantly relate to this on first impressions. So in the day of some of the most advanced technologies and most widespread equality, why does society feel that physical appearance is so important?
