In US, there have been many school shootings. Most of them by white, young males. Many people like to avoid this fact and focus on issues such as gun control, but the truth is we must address this issue. Boys are brought up to be as strong as men. They are taught to “tough it out” and fight back. If a boy carries a My Little Pony backpack to school, he will be harassed. This article brings up Patriarchy, a political-social system that insists that males are superior. It teaches males to not feel or express pain, avoid emotional connectedness, and suppress all emotions to avoid punishment. Gender roles make it so a boy should act a certain way and media portrays males as the “tough guy.” All this leads to a culture of violence among males. What are steps that our society needs to take to stop this issue? Is feminism the answer as this article claims?
